NAV Canada provides, maintains and enhances an air navigation service dedicated to the safe movement of air traffic throughout the country and through oceanic airspace assigned to Canada under international agreements.
Kamloops Flight Service Station tower sits atop the Air Operations Centre building and operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Airport safety services include provisions of airport services, vehicle control, monitoring of navigational aids, emergency services, alerts to search and rescue centers and weather observation.
The existing controls system has received no major upgrades since its installation, over fifteen years ago and the manufacturer has discontinued the primary controllers for system and software. Potential failure poses a threat to the facility.

Critically, the upgrade could not disrupt building services, (such as electrical, natural gas, sewer or water) and it was essential to maintain temperature thresholds in all areas during the installation.
