From the Warehouse to the Field: Daniel’s Next Step
Published on: February 26, 2026
Daniel’s Kimco journey goes from warehouse to field as an Electrical Apprentice, with support from Ken Watt.
Daniel in the Kimco warehouse, where his path into the trades began.
Daniel’s path into the trades didn’t start in the field, it started in the warehouse.
After working in the aviation industry, he joined Kimco as a Warehouse Clerk, supporting teams with electrical, automation, and HVAC parts. Over time, something shifted. With technicians constantly requesting electrical components, Daniel found himself becoming more familiar with the materials, and more curious about how they were used on site.
“Just being around the parts and seeing how the technicians work made me want to pursue something more,” he says.
That curiosity turned into opportunity. With support from the team, and the opportunity provided by partner Ken, Daniel is now transitioning into the field as an Electrical Apprentice. To help him get started, Ken also provided him with the tools he needs, making the shift from warehouse to field that much more seamless.
One advantage Daniel is bringing with him is a strong understanding of the materials themselves, something he believes will give him a head start in school.
For anyone considering a similar path, his advice is simple:
“When life gives you the opportunity to be the hammer; strike the nail hard.”
At Kimco, growth doesn’t always follow a straight line, and Daniel’s journey is a great example of that.
Q&A with Daniel
Q: What made you decide to go into electrical?
A: I was working in the Aviation Industry as a Material Coordinator before, and I was offered to be the Warehouse Clerk for Kimco which mainly deals with Electrical, Automation & HVAC Parts. But due to the high frequent repetitions of technicians requesting Electrical Parts, I have gained more affinity and knowledge with them which made me help decide to pursue electrical.
Q: How has working at Kimco influenced that decision?
A: Well, everyone in the company is just so knowledgeable with the parts that I have been keeping in stock in the warehouse, which I would frequently ask in how these parts would be needed or how they would have them installed. Just from being with the materials around me and from seeing the technicians, these have influenced me to pursue something higher in my career.
Q: How has Kimco supported you in making that transition?
A: One of the owners, Ken Watt, who is also my boss gave me this wonderful opportunity to transition from being in the Warehouse into out on the field and start out as an Electrical Apprentice! He provided me with all sorts of tools as a startup to make my transition seamless.
Q: What have you learned so far working here that you’ll take with you into school?
A: Parts Familiarity/Mastery would be the biggest one - with the knowledge that I have from the materials that flows in and out in the Warehouse, I would have an edge in school with the hardware and parts.
