One of the newest members of our HVAC team brings a decade of experience to the refrigeration mechanic trade.

It’s a homecoming for our newest journeyman refrigeration mechanic, Brock M. Born and raised in Kelowna, Brock is back in the Okanagan after a stint in Calgary. We couldn’t be happier to welcome Brock and his decade of HVAC expertise to the team.

Welcome to the team! How have things been going so far?

It's been really nice, everyone's really helpful and understanding. I've had the chance to work with quite a few of the top journeymen who’ve been showing me the ropes. They're all very nice, easy to get along with and knowledgeable. It's great because we're very like-minded. They're a really good team and everyone bounces ideas off of each other. I appreciate that side of things, you don't always get that in the HVAC, electrical and building automation world. There's a nice team atmosphere.

How long have you been in the trades? How did you get started?

I started ten years ago. I had just come out of junior hockey and was trying to figure out what I would do with my life. I got good grades and was going to go into engineering — I had all the schooling to study what I wanted but didn't want to go the university route not knowing a direct idea of what I was going to do. I looked at the trades and refrigeration mechanic caught my eye. I was intrigued by how red seal refrigeration was a highly sought-after trade where you use your mind a lot, there's a lot of troubleshooting and it's like a combination of the other trades. I've loved it ever since.

What do you love about working in HVAC?

It's always changing and there are so many different applications for heating and cooling that you don't always do the same thing. For some companies you do, but that was another big reason why I joined Kimco. You do so many different things. It’s very diverse. It's nice to be able to do the same thing every day.

How does it feel to be back home in the Okanagan?

It's almost self-explanatory because of how nice the weather is here. I'm an outdoorsy type of person and there's lots of that around here: golfing, wakeboarding, you name it, you can do it here. It's nice to have those options. In Calgary, you'd have to drive to Banff or Canmore to do any of that, so it's nice to have everything at your doorstep. My family is here, too, so it's really nice to be back with my family.

Our technicians specialising in HVAC, automation, and electrical in the Okanagan not only know their trade — they’re passionate about what they do. Let Kimco help you today.
