Chris H. marks 24 years with Kimco Controls this year! Find out what has kept the DDC controls specialist in Kelowna’s building automation world for decades. 

Continuing our employee celebration series, we chat with DDC Support, Chris H. Chris has been with Kimco for an incredible 24 years this July! We sat down with Chris to learn a little more about his journey in the trades, building automation systems and DDC controls.

How did you get started in a trade in the industry?

I was going into my fourth year of my electrical apprenticeship and Kimco was the company that everybody wanted to work for. And I had the opportunity that my counsellor at the time for my apprenticeship suggested I apply and I got in right away. I've been here ever since.

It’s so rare that people stick with something for so long these days. What do you like about working in the industry?

I just love the atmosphere, the work we do, and the type of work it is. Working with clients and everything that comes with it keeps it interesting. There's always something new going on.

After so many years in the industry, what sticks out to you?

Things have evolved quite a bit from when I first started here. It's cool to see how things have progressed with different advancements in the building automation, HVAC and electrical industry. Also, internally, watching lots of employees come is always memorable.

What do you love about working with Kimco?

The fact that it's a family here. A lot of the guys that I work with, I've trained. A lot of them are younger than me, so they're like younger brothers. It's a family environment and we all get along really well. After 24 years it’s been an awesome company to work for!

What can we find you doing outside of work?

Spending time with my family. My family is very important to me. We’ve got four — well, three grandkids and a fourth one on the way. We love camping, being outdoors and keeping active. I’ve been in Kelowna since 1979, so 43 years. Living in the Okanagan the summertimes are awesome. All Seasons are great. I don't want to ever move away.
