Nav Canada Air Traffic Tower, Kamloops
The Nav Canada Air Traffic Tower in Kamloops was in need of retrofitting, upgrading building automation systems.
The Goal
The existing controls system has received no major upgrades since its installation, over fifteen years ago, and the manufacturer had discontinued the primary controllers for system and software. Potential failure poses a threat to the facility, and Kimco was ready to step in with building automation and control systems upgrades. The upgrade needed to:
- Implement the latest automation technologies
- Retrofit outdated equipment
- Be performed without interrupting building services
The Kimco Solution
Kimco was engaged to provide a complete control system replacement with the latest technology. This included:
- Web-based software and system hardware; serving HVAC plant and zone control and backed up by a UPS system.
- Supply and installation of a refrigerant, natural gas and carbon monoxide leak detection system.
- Utility metering
Critically, the upgrade could not disrupt building services, (such as electrical, natural gas, sewer or water) and it was essential to maintain temperature thresholds in all areas during the installation.
