Wine and Beyond Dilworth location
Kimco installed lighting and electrical on a tight timeline for the store’s first Kelowna location.
The Challenge
Kimco received the lighting and electrical design from Wine & Beyond’s internal engineering team. Because the Dilworth location is part of a chain, Kimco had to source very specific materials and light fixtures to ensure the store complied with Wine & Beyond’s design preferences, while navigating supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. It also had to meet a very tight three-month installation timeline, with no room for delays: the store was slated to open at the end of September, and the company had already taken out ads on busses and in other locations throughout town.
“We ran into a lot of trouble with the fact that we couldn’t get certain materials in time because of COVID, and Kimco put in a lot of effort to solve that as quickly as they could.”

The Kimco Solution
Some lights were more difficult to source due to reduced manpower and extended manufacturing times, and breakers were also limited because of a resin shortage caused by a Texas plant being damaged in a hurricane. Kimco put in extra effort to ensure those materials made it to the store on time; in the case of the lights, it reached out to an Alberta electrical supplier and traded the lights they had in stock with Kimco’s when they were scheduled to arrive.
Kimco’s electrical installation complied with all of Wine & Beyond’s requirements. Its lighting installation work included showcase strip lighting in the specialty liquor cabinet and clear spirit bins on the shelves; modern LED higbay lighting and LED track lights for the showroom floor, and under-shelve lighting for ease of viewing. Electricians also installed a complete lighting controls system in the discovery room, and occupancy sensors with LED flat panel lighting in the cooler and back offices.
All of the store’s lights operate on timers and occupancy sensors, and all the installed lights have dimmers to ensure Wine & Beyond had proper lighting levels while minimizing energy use — making the space aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly.
Kimco’s electrical team went above and beyond to ensure they met the required deadline, going in after hours and adding very last-minute finishing touches as Wine & Beyond staff were beginning to stock the store with product.
“Their leadership on the project was strong, and they do have a drive to succeed.”
