It all started in 1984.
Back then, Kimco Controls was a local partnership company that worked as a companion service to a mechanical contracting firm. The pool of skill and talent was there and through dedicated hard work proving their expertise in the building management system sector, Kimco grew to the HVAC, automation and electrical leaders they are today.
Nearly 40 years later, Kimco Controls is owned by experts in their fields who all started as employees themselves. Living their company’s values, Kimco promotes from within and provides rigorous training programs that keep staff moving forward in their careers and at the top of their field.
Passionate about technology, Kimco is constantly innovating to provide cutting-edge smart building automation solutions. Nearly four decades up to now is just the beginning of the Kimco story as they continue to push the boundaries of building control systems for a greener tomorrow.

From a Best of Kelowna nomination to a major school contract win, 2025 marked a year of momentum for Kimco. The team was selected to deliver HVAC and automation systems for the new George Pringle Secondary School—an energy-forward build using geothermal and smart lighting. With community sponsorships, industry conference leadership, and practical resources for energy savings, Kimco reinforced its role as the Interior’s most trusted name in building systems.

Kimco purchases the Kelowna building in 2021, becoming owners of the Kimco property.
Penticton Opens
In order to better serve the South Okanagan, Kimco officially opens the Penticton shop in 2020.
Cranbrook Opens
The Kimco Cranbrook shop officially opens in 2019, allowing us to continue to serve the Kootenay region to the best of our ability.
Enhanced Electrical Services
Ever innovating, Kimco expands automation services in 2017 to meet market demand to include grow facilities, EV chargers and solar power.
Same Incredible Service, New Look
Kimco Controls undergoes a total company rebrand in 2016, bringing the look of the company up to speed with the technologies they implement.

In 2012, the Kimco family reaches a milestone number of expert employees in the Kimco family: 28.
New Ownership
Longtime employees Mark H., Mark J., and Ken buy the business in 2012, becoming part owners and living proof of Kimco’s promote from within, people-first values.
