Meet the Team: Celebrating Matt Marcia and Zach Hornby

This month, 2 of our Kimco technicians hit milestones worth celebrating. Matt Marcia earned his Class B Gas Fitter certification, and Zach Hornby marked 5 years with Kimco!

We caught up with both of them to find out what they enjoy about the work and what keeps them motivated.

Matt Marcia: Always Learning

For Matt, one of the best parts of being a technician is that there’s always something new to learn.

“Seeing and getting to work on new equipment keeps things exciting,” he shares.

His time at Kimco has also shown him how much water treatment matters, and how it can affect the larger mechanical systems in a building. That curiosity is what made his gas fitting certification such a big step. His Certificate of Qualification from SkilledTradesBC covers Gasfitter Class B work, which in BC includes installing and altering certified gas appliances rated up to 120 kW, along with their piping and vents (Technical Safety BC). That opens up more of the commercial HVAC work our team takes on.

Matt sees customer feedback as fuel to keep improving. As he puts it, positive feedback makes the team want to “continue to be better every day.”

Zach Hornby: Building Connections

After 5 years with Kimco, Zach’s learned that being a great technician takes more than getting the job done. A big part of what he enjoys is building relationships and working alongside customers.

“I really enjoy the connections made with repeat and new customers, also building rapport with them,” he explains.

Zach knows that having work done on your site can be an inconvenience. He puts real care into keeping the process smooth and making sure the result works for everyone, and knowing customers notice that effort makes the job even more rewarding.

Different Strengths on the Same Team

Matt and Zach bring different strengths to the job, but they share the same appetite for learning and doing the work right. Their manager describes them as adaptable technicians who contribute to both installation and service work, with a forward-thinking approach and a willingness to keep learning.

The milestones are worth celebrating, and so is the everyday effort that goes into supporting our customers and our team.
