We made a list, and you can check it twice! Simple building automation solutions and HVAC tips make it easy to lock the office door for the holidays.

It’s that time of year when we all take a collective pause and spend a little more time in our PJs than usual. Before you close the door on 2022, there are a few simple things you may want to keep in mind so that everything in your commercial building is running smoothly when you reopen in 2023.

1. Ensure the building’s temperature is regulated based on occupancy

If you plan to close up the office for the holidays, or reduce hours, ensure the thermostat is lowered and not operating at full blast. Better yet, building automation systems that use tools like Delta Controls sensors rapidly respond to temperature changes and occupancy, ensuring a consistent temperature based on your needs.

2. Unplug small appliances

It’s all about the little things. Small items plugged in around the office like desk lamps and chargers, sap energy even when not in use. If your building will be closed for a time, go ahead and unplug these things to save energy and help your bottom line.

3. Stay on top of air quality

Smart building technology is a great way to ensure people in your building can breathe easy after the holidays. Sensors will alert you to any impurities that may reach undesirable levels, and demand control ventilation intelligently keeps air moving where you need it most.

A few analog touches will help keep the air clean as well, like switching out air filters and keeping vents clear.

4. Turn off the lights

This seems like an obvious one but make sure the lights are off before you leave for the holidays. If you haven’t invested in lighting automation yet, add it to your list of New Year’s resolutions!

5. Sign up for a preventative maintenance plan
