A Building Designed for Many Uses

The Akisqnuk Multipurpose Centre includes a Health Centre, Band Hall and Band Administration, with spaces ranging from offices and meeting rooms to a commercial kitchen, walk-in cooler and freezer, dental spaces and other specialized areas. 

The building's mechanical systems reflect this variety. Heating and cooling are provided through a combination of VRF systems and fan coil units, with dedicated HVAC equipment serving different areas of the facility. The Health Centre incorporates a dedicated VRF system, while fan coil units are distributed throughout the building to provide localized heating and cooling. 

The facility also includes dedicated ventilation and exhaust systems, including equipment serving the commercial kitchen and other specialized spaces. Domestic hot water systems, hot water recirculation, condensate drainage, heat tracing and a sanitary sump pump system are also incorporated into the building's mechanical design. 

Kimco's Role

Kimco Controls was proud to be part of the Multipurpose Centre project at ʔAkisq̓nuk First Nation providing building automation services for the facility.

With a building that brings together healthcare, administration, community gathering spaces and other specialized uses, building automation plays an important role in bringing the various mechanical systems together and supporting comfortable, reliable operation throughout the facility.

For Kimco, projects like Akisqnuk are especially meaningful because the work extends beyond the systems themselves.
